Architect Jean Phifer specializes in planning, restoration and sustainable design projects for cultural institutions. She has designed or restored numerous distinguished buildings, monuments, public spaces and landscapes, primarily in New York State. Phifer is an adjunct associate professor of Environmental Design at New York University, a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a LEED accredited professional. She served as architect member and President of the Art Commission of the City of New York, now the Public Design Commission, from 1998-2003. She is the author of Public Art New York (Norton, 2009). She graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1974 and received her Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University in 1977.
